How To Choose A Ux UI Designer For An IT Product The First Time

If you have to look for and choose a Ux Ui designer shortly to design its product (service, marketplace, mobile or web application, etc.), these four tips will help you avoid mistakes when choosing a specialist. Tips are my experience. Eight years in design, and for the last three years, I have been focused only on designing it.

1. See What The Designer Focuses On

If you see landing pages, corporate sites, banners, promotional sites in your portfolio, and somewhere in the corner there are a couple of IT products, then you have a person who does everything. It follows from this that the designer is not deeply immersed in the design of its products.

If, for example, you need to design a mobile application, then a good option would be a person who focuses on its products (like me), and the ideal choice is someone who only designs mobile applications. The ideal one is someone who designs mobile applications and has already done something in your niche.

But remember, the more you filter specialists according to different criteria, the fewer of them remain, but those more valuable to you stay.

Three years ago, I stopped focusing on everything and only designed IT products. Then, when I started receiving orders only for IT products, a new world opened up for me, new skills appeared, which allowed me to make each new product better and better. I don’t think any of this would have happened if I hadn’t narrowed my focus.

2. View Portfolio

Beautiful pictures in a designer’s portfolio do not mean that the result for your product will be of high quality. Yes, perhaps the design will be beautiful and stylish, especially if someone has recently left the graph. Plan, but such a design will be incomprehensible and not convenient for people. The reason for this inconvenience is straightforward – such a designer has learned to make “beauty,” but in other skills, he may have gaps.

In its it-products, in contrast to the same promotional sites, the convenience of the product, its clarity comes to the fore. An IT product is primarily about solving problems and the path from A to B. How to build such a path? So that the client understands everything, does not get confused, and solves his problem – that’s the question.

I want to add that I do not underestimate the importance of beauty in design because this is the element that also affects convenience. After all, if there is an artsy color or small print in work, this will worsen perception, making the path from A to B more complex.

Pretty pictures are good. It would help if you liked what you saw, but also, your task is to pay attention to what work was done by the designer. Perhaps, the designer’s tasks included only drawing according to ready-made prototypes; in this case, if you hire a person to design a product from technical specifications to the result fully.

 He may have problems because it turns out that such a person is not strong in analytics and design.

If it is not clear from the cases what kind of work was done, you can ask the person to talk about the project that is most similar to yours: what path was traveled, and what exactly was done by the designer, and relate this to your task.
