Google’s New Features To Protect Children

Google Awareness is growing among the big names in technology on the possible obstacles to growth posed by the internet and smartphones: this is how Google intends to move.

Google wants to provide more control possibilities for minors or their parents over the “digital life”, from the most popular apps in the ecosystem to end up on Google search through the Google Play Store application store.

Fortunately, the technology giants have been increasingly taking a protective attitude towards those most vulnerable on the net for some time now. One of the latest big tech companies to move was Instagram, which, not even weeks ago, announced a series of measures to protect minors.

Now it’s Google’s turn, which manages an entire ecosystem, unlike the social of the photos, so it had more incredible difficulty in moving quickly. But in the end, it came up and announced the possibility for people under the age of 18 or their parents to ask for their image to be removed from Google Images or Google search results. It won’t be like removing it from the web, but it certainly is a way to give it less visibility.

YouTube and Google search

As we said, almost all the apps of the Google ecosystem are moving in the direction of more excellent protection against minors. YouTube, for example, will change the settings for publishing videos by applying the most stringent privacy policies available as default.

Not only this, YouTube will keep the automatic playback of videos disabled by default in an attempt to prevent a minor from viewing unwanted content. On the contrary, by default, reminders will be activated, inviting you to take breaks between one video and another and warnings about the correct time to go to bed.

Google expects massive use of the SafeSearch filter – it’s already active by default in accounts under the age of 13 managed through Family Link, but Google wants to raise the age to 18 and keep it active by default for teens who create a new one. Account; in this way, we want to avoid that young person obtaining search results that are not suited to their age.

The Play Store Will Soon Be More Precise On Privacy

Google’s measures also include Location History, which is disabled by default on all accounts. In Mountain View, they want to make it impossible for anyone under 18 to activate History.

News on the horizon also for the Play Store. A new section will arrive on the application store where parents will know which apps meet the protection policies for minors, and then what data they collect and how they use it so that each parent can consciously choose whether to allow their child to download the app.

Here is the note released by Alphabet, the holding company that owns Google: “We constantly work with parents, institutions, industry leaders and experts in the protection of privacy to design better and more suitable products to increase the safety of minors, their well-being and their awareness “.
