Official Huawei Nova 9 And Nova 9 Pro: Great Cameras But No Android

Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro are official in China: they arrive with excellent cameras and ultra-fast top-ups, but Google apps and services are missing.

A few days after the announcement of Huawei Nova 8i, Huawei presented two other new mid-range smartphones in China, Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro. Like all recent Huawei smartphones, the two suffer from the absence of Android, Google services and apps, and the lack of 5G connectivity, which is why the company first markets them in China and then evaluates to bring them to other markets.

Apart from the two heavy absences in the West, Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro find their main strength in the technology used for fast charging, which brings the latter to the threshold of 100 watts of power, an incredible value. No less generous is the offer in terms of cameras, where once again Nova 9 Pro stands out from its brother for the presence of a dual-camera in the front surface:

You get a “traditional” camera and one with an ultra-wide-angle lens that is perfect for selfies with large groups of people. Huawei has also included several software “goodies”: vlog mode, audio zoom, and dual view video, to record with rear and front camera simultaneously.

Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro, technical characteristics

Many of the technical characteristics of the Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro are shared, so it is worthwhile to treat them together and specify the differences from time to time. The two new smartphones from Huawei focus on a Snapdragon 778G chip lacking 5G connectivity (therefore with 4G LTE), an octa-core made of 6 nanometers with a maximum frequency of 2.4 GHz. 8 GB RAM and 128 storage space or 256 GB.

Huawei Nova 9 has a display of 6.57 inches, Nova 9 Pro by 6.72 inches. However, both have Full HD + resolution, integrated fingerprint reader, 120 Hz refresh rate and 300 Hz touch sampling rate to ensure maximum responsiveness to commands.

Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro have the same rear cameras, four on both: a 50MP f / 1.9 primary wide-angle sensor, an 8MP f / 2.2 ultra-wide-angle sensor, one for 2MP f / 2.4 macros. And finally one for the detection of the depth of field always from 2 MP f / 2.4.

On the front surface, however, Nova 9 has a 32 MP f / 2.0 camera while Nova 9 Pro has two cameras, one “traditional” of 32 MP and the other, also of 32 MP but ultra-wide-angle with a viewing angle of 100 degrees.

As anticipated, 5G is absent on the connectivity front, but otherwise, nothing is missing. Both have the HarmonyOS 2.0 operating system.

Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro, availability and prices

Huawei Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro are already in pre-order in China, which will be available starting from 29 September. No information, for the moment, regarding commercialization outside the Chinese borders, so we do not know if they will arrive in Europe.

In China, we start from the equivalent of 355 euros for the Huawei Nova 9 in the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space and the equivalent of 460 euros for the Nova 9 Pro with the same amount of memory.
